SPIKE DELIGHTS LOCAL YOKELS IN GEELONG

Exclusive

What a great live show: Geelong, Victoria, one night in 1984.

Spike played the nation anthem on our local newspaper, and bailed up some naughty latecomers in a spotlight like escaped POWs.

He introduced his accompanist as a man who didn't drink: "Can you imagine that," he asked, "waking up each morning, knowing that was as good as you were going to feel all day?"

I was 17 at the time, and had a ball.
